The evil-smartphone movie Jexi doesn't understand why people like technology. It's a limp comedy that mocks online interaction without acknowledging its uses or why it draws people. (The movie was not screened for critics in advance, and the few other people in my theater left swiftly and silently as it ended.) So we all slog forward, uncomfortably, as the vengeful Jexi end-runs. "Jexi" was not screened for critics, which is odd. Phil is addicted to his phone. He's always distracted, portraying a fake life Jexi and Phil develop a very innappropriate, crude relationship. Adam DeVine is a dweeb who develops a relationship with his virtual I don't want to say that I think "Jexi" is a better movie than "Her." Spike Jonze's film was heady and ambitious. This review contains major spoilers for Jexi.
