There are no spoilers in this review. Just to preface this, I am a HUGE fan of the Exorcist. This movie stands out on its own by reviewing Father Merrin's life long before his fateful encounter with Regan years later.
William Friedkin films an exorcism, all to revive the mystique of his most famous movie. A lot of movie buffs, especially if they saw "The Exorcist" at a certain age, will tell you that they think it's the scariest movie ever made. The movie doesn't break new ground but has enough scary moments.
When The Exorcist was in the early stages of production, Friedkin met with the Rev. Halloween Triumphant: Listen To Another Track From John Carpenter's New Slasher Score. An older and younger priest present the traditional versus scientific approach, and the fact that the younger one has no idea what he is doing makes the war on the spirit even better. Therefore, I can honestly say, that this film is as close to perfect as a movie.
