Overal Under the Silver Lake is a beautiful piece of cinema that might not be what the average film goer is looking for, but cinephiles will probably appreciate for it's distinct. While "Under the Silver Lake" has neo-noir elements, obviously, it's not exactly a thriller. Its darker qualities come with a heavy dose of slacker comedic sensibility—it's the only movie you'll see this year in which someone suspicious is trailed via paddleboat.

As a Los Angeles movie it lacks the rough, naturalistic edge of "La La. Under the Silver Lake hits its stride slightly more often than it stumbles, but it's hard not to admire - or be drawn in Under the Silver Lake alternates between being incredibly compelling and frustratingly confused.
