A harmless game of Truth or Dare among friends turns deadly when someone - or something - begins to punish those who tell a lie or refuse the dare. Revisit these iconic summer movies, from coming-of-age favorites, to whirlwind romances, to camp slashers. Unfortunately for TRUTH OR DARE it's not particularly clever, with a heavy dose of laughable CGI and a bland script completely void of scares or tension.
The movie's premise, which finds a gaggle of college students led by Pretty Little Liars star Lucy Hale traveling to Mexico for. "Blumhouse's Truth or Dare" is the "Showgirls" of post-"Scream" slasher movies: it's not campy nor emotionally involving enough to be more than the sum of its ungainly parts. It's a horror movie that takes seemingly forever to get the "horror" going. Even more annoying is the build-up to the next turn.

Once the ensemble cast figures out what's happening, they deduce the order they have to play the game. The moments in between drag. "Truth or Dare," however, doesn't build on that tasty morsel of supernatural murder. There are several more dares, but the film is mostly interested in "the truth" — i.e., in forcing its characters to reveal their hidden layers, even though as characters they have no layers.
Truth or Dare's slick presentation isn't enough to make this mediocre horror outing much more frightening than an average Here's the truth from me: as dumb as this movie was, I kind of enjoyed it. Truth or Dare could have used a bit more intensity and blood to really make the stakes feel real. Only a week following the excellent A Quiet Place and on the same weekend as the bi-weekly Dwayne Johnson film comes the "Horror" movie Truth or Dare. Review for the film " Truth Or Dare".
