Near the beginning of the movie, the make of the black SUV tailing Damian changes from Chevrolet to GMC depending on the camera's point of view. Very noticeable as the two makes mainly differ in the front grille area which is very prominent. Self/less boasts a potential-packed premise, but does frustratingly little with it, settling for lackluster action at the expense of interesting ideas.

Self/less, on the other hand, doesn't do anything you could call thoughtful, and its sci-fi storyline seems almost arbitrary when compared to the rudimentary thriller climax. Reynolds is an appealing actor, and it's easy enough to compensate for his limitations if you let yourself believe that he's really Ben Kingsley the whole time. Self/Less movie agrees with film history: immortality is a drag. But sadly Reynolds at no time attempts a Vice-Versa-type Ben Kingsley impression and the movie loses its focus as it degenerates into a preposterous and dull chase thriller. In Seconds, the main character, played by John Randolph, was suffering from severe malaise that led him to take drastic measures. The protagonist of Self/less, Damian Hale (Ben. Self/less has a lot of surprises in store, the most important being just how enjoyable and well-made it is.

What does come as a surprise is how successfully the film elevates a functional B-movie story into a sensory and smart piece of genre filmmaking. Self/Less is a movie that reminds you a lot of many other sci-fi thrillers grounded in reality, but it never really does anything to separate itself from. The movie stars Ben Kingsley as Damian, a very wealthy businessman who has a terminal illness that will take his life within six months.
