There's a lot going on in Batman Forever-- probably much more than in either Batman or Batman Returns-- yet Joel Schumacher keeps things on an even keel, moving swiftly without creating such a strong undertow that the viewer loses his or her footing. The film is a blast and, ultimately, a very quick two. For Batman Forever, Tim Burton, the director of the first two Batman films, was already working on the third Batman film, which was going to be titled Batman Continues and was going. The brief flashback sequence in Batman Forever that shows how Harvey Dent became Two-Face is pretty much lifted right out of the book.

Yet Batman Forever's greatest strength — and the source of some of the movie's best beats — is the way it handles the origin story of Robin, a.k.a.
