When talking about Godzilla movies, especially with diehard monster movie devotees, it's easy to forget (and rarely talked about in the open) that most of them are boring. Edwards smartly blends sixty years worth of Godzilla movies into a cautionary tale warning of modern humankind's arrogance, presenting the King of Monsters as both horror and hero. And the movie is called "Godzilla"?
Trust me, there's a reason he gets top billing, but it would spoil the fun to explain why. In any case, the MUTOs alone are worth the price of admission. He was designed as a cross between a Tyrannosaurus, a Stegosaurus, an Iguanodon and an alligator. His Japanese name, Gojira, is a portmanteau of the words for 'whale' and 'gorilla'. The title of the Japanese monster movie "Shin Godzilla," an "Shin Godzilla" is a reboot, marking the first time that the Japanese military—or the world at large—have ever encountered Godzilla. Godzilla is really showing his age.

This is a list of all official Godzilla movies in order of release date. Although I don't think the movie was a total loss, it is a major disappointment. Hyped up to no end, Godzilla was expected to be more than it was.
