"Return of the Jedi" is both a familiar movie and a new one. It concludes the stories of the major human characters in the saga, particularly Skywalker, Han Solo, Princess Leia and Darth Vader. It revisits other characters who seem either more or less than human, including Ben (Obi-Wan) Kenobi.

Return of the Jedi

With this last of the central Star Wars cycle, there is the sense of the closing of a circle, of leaving behind real friends. It is accomplished with a weight and a new maturity that seem entirely fitting, yet the movie has lost none. The Hollywood Reporter's original review of Return of the Jedi, which takes stock of how the franchise began to start fraying, is below Queen of spleen critic Pauline Kael called it "an impersonal and rather junky piece of moviemaking" while the rest of the world clearly thought otherwise (and so did In this final episode (of the middle trilogy at least), the evil Empire has managed to claw back power and get a substantial way through. It's a little dated but still a very well-made film. I still enjoy watching the movie after a very long time of not watching the film. This movie isn't as good as the previous two, but it's still a good movie and enjoyable watch.
