Overall, Seven Psychopaths is a great bit of fun. At a run-time of under two hours, it's definitely a movie worth watching with a group of friends on movie night.

There are odd moments in Seven Psychopaths when Marty's understandable exasperation becomes tedious and repetitive. But mostly the ruthless black humour is sustained, and occasionally some genuine emotion can creep in and touch our hearts.
What movie junkie out there wouldn't leap at the chance to see merry pranksters such as Christopher Walken, Sam Rockwell and Woody He hasn't written anything but the title, Seven Psychopaths. To help, Billy puts out an all-points alert for scum of the earth. They all have roles in a screenplay titled "Seven Psychopaths," which is under development by a writer named Marty Faranan, played by Colin Farrell. I think this is a movie without a movie. Some of it happens to Marty, some of it happens in Marty's imagination, and some of it seems to happen in one. Seven Psychopaths does have its merits, of course.

The humor is very much spot-on, at least in its superior first half. Visual gags and surprise violence, much in the same vein as Quentin Tarantino, give the movie that exhilarating roller-coaster feel that makes black comedy work so well. Seven Psychopaths is the most welcomed surprise of the year.
