Chris Stuckmann reviews The Ring, starring Naomi Watts, Martin Henderson, David Dorfman, Brian Cox, Amber Tamblyn, Rachael Bella. Enormous craft has been put into the movie, which looks just great, but the story goes beyond contrivance into the dizzy realms of the absurd. The story involves a video that brings certain death.
The Ring dips deep in the well of oft-used scary images, which paradoxically results in a movie that is both architecturally firm but, with little new to add, empty of true revelation. The Ring, an elegantly creepy film set in a perpetual Seattle rainstorm, is interested more in eerie, unnerving thrills than bloodletting. The Ring was met with generally positive reviews from film critics.
The Ring movie reviews & Metacritic score: In this remake of one of Japan's biggest box office hits, Naomi Watts plays a journalist who discovers a mysteriou. Largely because of it's VHS nature. The Ring is successful in its thrills, but unfortunately not a Gore Verbinski masterpiece. Ring does this well at points too, but for most it will always go for the jump rather than the unnerving creep. For example THAT scene (viewers will know what I mean) is too quick and too jumpy in Ring whereas in Ringu it was slow, deliberate and terrifying in it's sheer unnerving horror. 'Rings' movie review. It starts strong, but 'Rings' feels like a worn-out VHS tape.
Trailer The Ring
It always knows when you're watching it. spiritual content: The Ring posits a world where marauding and malevolent spirits seek to kill as many as possible without rhyme or reason. This movie, at the time, was the scariest movie I had ever seen, but I was also like twelve years old when I watched it. I have watched it again since.
But Rings is a phenomenally distracted film, and it can't focus on any one concept for too long. The scientific-method plot is the most intriguing idea Case in point: The movie starts with three separate openings, all of which drop new characters on the audience without any sense that the story cares. RING movie is basically a Horror Hollywood movie. In which the artists are really worked very well.
