Of course, there is the hero too, Beowulf (Winstone), the roving monster-slayer who helps King Hrothgar (Hopkins) rid his kingdom of the monster Grendel. Beowulf is wildly silly and there are a few groanworthy moments, particularly when Beowulf strips off to fight Grendel nude, and various goblets and swords miraculously impede your view of his genitals.
